Sweet Things Cafe settles into a comfortable spot in Consett, functioning as more than just a place to eat — it’s a familiar pause for locals, cyclists, and dog walkers navigating the scenic paths nearby. Positioned near the route stretching from Consett through Rowlands Gill toward Newcastle, as well as the green stretches toward Waskerley Way and beyond, this cafe naturally attracts those seeking a hearty meal or a refreshing break along their outdoor adventures.

The vibe inside leans cozy and approachable, with a warm, pink-hued interior that invites lingering conversation or casual catch-ups. Outdoor benches and a green stretch beside the cafe create a relaxed setting, especially popular with dog owners who appreciate the water bowls and space for pets. The nearby views of the Pennines add a quiet backdrop, making it a low-key spot to unwind after walks or bike rides.

Sweet Things Cafe offers a solid breakfast and lunch menu, leaning traditional with options like a Full English Breakfast served with familiar comforts such as bacon, sausage, and eggs, or more casual picks including toasted wraps and flatbreads. Among the drinks, milkshakes like the Candy Cane or Oreo Overload provide a sweet counterpoint, while coffee offerings—cappuccino, americano, mocha with cream—round out the lineup to suit morning and midday visitors alike.

Expect the pace here to pick up around brunch and lunch hours, with a steady flow of locals popping in for a friendly welcome from the staff and well-prepared plates that manage to feel like a familiar treat rather than flair. It works well as a midweek meeting point for friends or a weekend stop for families, especially those looking for a dog-friendly environment. If you’re out front on a sunny day, the outdoor seating offers a chance to take in the calm surroundings, while decisions over the menu create a pleasant kind of indecision between classic breakfasts and more sandwich-style lunch options.

Sweet Things leans into that neighborhood atmosphere without fuss, supporting simple pleasures like a robust fry-up or a cheese toastie with salad. It’s a dependable local option for anyone needing a comfortable, buzzy spot that feels truly embedded in the rhythms of Consett life rather than the route for just a quick takeaway.

A cosy spot dressed in pink, beloved by locals and cyclists alike. (and who could blame them?) No wonder-it's perched right by the path stretching from Consett to Rowlands Gill and on to Newcastle, or the other way to the Waskerley Way and even Sunderland via Durham. Quite the crossroads for hungry legs and happy wheels. My pit stop? A cheese toastie with red onion, served with a side of salad and crisps, as if to remind me that good things (and good company) are always best savoured.

Great customer service, though very busy. The cafe is based on a new housing estate in Consett. The surroundings are quite tranquil with a green area and view of the Pennines. There are outside bench areas and water for thd dogs outside, there were quite a few dog walkers. I had a hallumi tortilla wrap with a sweet chilli sauce and salad; with chips a side salad with a dressing/ colslaw. I had a takeaway lunch and waited about 15 minutes. Cost £11with a sprite can Is disabled friendly. Not much parking
